What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a gold standard treatment, commonly used to eradicate imperfections in our skin. People typically undergo Microneedling treatments to treat acne, scars and pigmentation spots by penetrating the skin using a cluster of tiny sterile needles. This kick starts the body’s natural healing process allowing the skin to naturally regenerate collagen levels and restore its own vitality.

The procedure’s purpose is to prompt the skins’ own ability to regenerate by stimulating collagen and elastin production to repair minor surface flaws. No damage is caused to the skin. The micro perforations simply create a surge of activity, through increased blood circulation which ultimately enhances and smooths the skins surface appearance.

What is Microneedling used for?

One of the main advantages of Microneedling is that it can be used to treat an array of skin complaints in a minimally invasive, entirely natural manner. It is commonly used for:

  • Eradicating or minimising scars that are usually related to acne
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Correcting reduced skin elasticity
  • Stretch marks that can occur due to weight loss
  • Fine lines caused by sun damage or aging

More people are using this treatment to give their skin a refreshed and youthful appearance, as it is an economic, yet thoroughly effective alternative to laser skin treatments.

What benefits can be expected from Microneedling treatment?

This is an exceptionally versatile procedure, as it can be used on all skin types regardless of the condition of your skin, or the tone. The benefits are endless, with the most notable ones being:

Enhanced Skin Texture
As soon as we reach our early thirties, collagen and elastin production gradually starts to slow down. These two components are responsible for providing us with a plump, supple and vibrant skin appearance. When a Microneedling tool is used to gently puncture the skin, our body’s automatic response is to heal itself by producing increased levels of both collagen and elastin to repair these tiny surface holes. Immediately after the treatment is completed you will notice your skin feels much smoother and softer to the touch and visibly more even.

Reduced scarring
The scarring that is produced as a result of an injury, or acne can be significantly diminished after a microneedling treatment. Not only does it reduce the redness associated with scars, it also works to reverse the effects of fibrosis by regenerating and tightening the skin in the affected areas.

Your Skin Will Appear Less Blotchy
Humans are exposed to the elements of nature on a daily basis and as a result, our skin can appear discoloured or blotchy in some areas. Microneedling remedies this by evening out any changes in skin colour and giving you a more flawless complexion.

A More Youthful Appearance
Whilst Botox and Dermal Fillers work wonders to eradicate the signs of ageing, some people prefer to take a more natural approach to reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling is the perfect solution, as it is just a tool that provokes your skin to repair and regenerate itself without the need for additional chemicals.

Reduces Blackheads and Acne
Microneedling is also extremely effective at treating ongoing problems with blackheads, enlarged pores and acne. By penetrating the surface layer of the skin, the needles work to target the source of the recurring blemishes, whilst visibly reducing the size of pores at the same time.

What to expect during treatment?

As with any facial procedure, the process of Microneedling calls for methodical preparation. Firstly, your skin is thoroughly cleansed prior to applying a numbing cream. Once the numbing cream has taken effect, your clinician will apply a serum that promotes healing and regeneration.

The Microneedling tool is then applied around the face, working back and forth across small areas at a time before applying a final layer of serum to aid rapid regeneration of the skin.

When performed correctly, Microneedling should be painless with the majority of patients only experiencing some mild discomfort during the procedure. The application of a topical numbing cream prior to the treatment ensures that it will be as painless as possible.

Are there any side effects involved with Microneedling?

One of the primary reasons that Microneedling has become so popular is that it is accompanied by very minimal side effects. Patients may experience redness immediately after treatment, but this is entirely normal and will pass after a few days.
