Why Non-surgical Cosmetic Treatments Are on the Rise

Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments

Non-surgical cosmetic treatments have grown in popularity throughout 2020/2021

Have you been pondering a nip or tuck here or there? Maybe you’ve been thinking about how to defy the signs of ageing or how to achieve perfectly sculpted thighs for this summer? The greatest concerns associated with body enhancement procedures is usually the pain and the cost involved. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Improving your features can be a lot simpler than you might think. The treatments available nowadays have evolved beyond the operating table. There are now a wide array of non-surgical cosmetic procedures that deliver natural looking results, in a fraction of the time and cost compared to their surgical counterparts.

For this reason we are seeing a rise in the popularity of non-surgical cosmetic treatments across the country.

What are non-surgical cosmetic treatments?

Also known as “non-invasive”, these types of treatments do not involve any skin being surgically cut or the use of any medical instruments in the body, i.e. in an invasive way. It offers a fairly straightforward method of enhancing facial and body features as well as making any wrinkles appear less obvious with less down-time after treatment.

These procedures can minimise the signs of ageing in a variety of ways, including augmenting facial features, skin resurfacing, smoothing wrinkles and deeper lines, chemical peels, dermabrasion, body sculpting, non-surgical face lifts, cryotherapy treatments, Botox, fillers and laser treatments to name just a few.

Surgical vs non-surgical cosmetic procedures

Surgical cosmetic procedures require one or more incisions, to carry out the procedure. They are done either under local or general anaesthetic, depending on the procedure and involve putting your body under quite some trauma as in the case of any surgery. Examples would include rhinoplasty, liposuction, breast augmentation, buttock lift or face lifts.

Non-surgical cosmetic treatments, on the other hand don’t require any incisions and are considered “minimally invasive”. There is always some risk involved in any cosmetic procedure, but non-surgical options present a significantly lower risk and easier recovery than surgical. An assortment of treatment options and methods are available. We’ll discuss these in more detail below…

Types of non-surgical cosmetic treatments

Numerous non-surgical cosmetic treatments are available, including anti-wrinkle treatments, chin augmentation, cheek augmentation, lip enhancement, nose reshaping, brow lifting and body sculpting. These procedures are performed with the use of lasers, LED-based equipment, injectables and chemicals, depending on what treatment is required. Results last anything from four to twelve months, again depending on the type of procedure you have done.

Dermal Fillers

Fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid-based gels that do as the name suggests: fill in lines and add volume to facial features. The most well-known brand names include Restylane and Juvederm. Our choice is Juvederm because of its proven efficacy.

Chemical Peels

These peels are used to remove the upper layer of skin cells (the dead skin) in order to reveal the fresh layer beneath. Some peels can work deeper in the skin, and are graded as superficial, medium, or deep.

Cryotherapy

Freezing temperatures are temporarily applied locally to fatty areas. The fat cells are frozen, die off and are excreted from the body through the liver within a few weeks of treatment. It can reduce the appearance of cellulite while reducing excess fat and is a good option for people who have tried diet and exercise with little success.

Cryo-Facials

(Also known as Frotox) are an excellent treatment option for enlarged pores and other skin concerns. During the treatment, dead skin cells are frozen off, rejuvenating the skin, while also reducing redness.

Other non-surgical treatments on offer include: Mesotherapy, Dermapen, Plasmapen, Profhilo, fat dissolving injections, cryo body sculpting, cryo stimulation, cryo-facials (Frotox) and gummy smile treatment. For a full list, visit the Banning Skin Clinique menu.

Benefits of non-surgical cosmetic treatments

Minimally invasive. This says it all! Many of us feel daunted by the prospect of undergoing the knife to enhance our features, but desperately want to improve them. And this is where non-surgical cosmetic treatments are ideal for those tweaks, without drastically changing natural features.

They are quick and simple to perform, patients see instant results, there are fewer risks involved in comparison to surgical procedures, there is little or no down-time with only some or no side effects. You can even have a non-surgical procedure carried out in your lunch hour! And let’s not forget, they are cost effective, being significantly cheaper than surgical procedures.

Considering the nature of non-surgical cosmetic treatments when compared with surgical options, ever more people are opting to go the non-surgical route.

Even in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, there has been a great surge in demand for minimally invasive procedures, while demand for surgical procedures were down on the previous year. Since 2010, the cosmetic surgery industry has grown from £2.3bn to £3.6bn, of which non-surgical cosmetic treatments make up nine out of ten procedures (worth £2.75bn) – a clear indication of just how popular non-surgical options are becoming.
