What are Skin Peels?

During normal everyday life, our skin is subjected to a variety of both internal and external influences which will eventually impact its appearance. Diet, cosmetics, pollution, and environmental exposure can all take their toll on our surface complexion. As the years pass, this becomes increasingly more apparent. Lifeless, tired skin only contributes to the negative signs of ageing. There reaches a point when your own at home cleansing routines fail to deliver a sufficient level of revitalisation and you may seek an alternative to restore the natural glow you once enjoyed.

If you feel your skin lacks its former lustre, a Skin Peel could well be the treatment you need. Not only do they deliver a depth of cleansing that goes beyond anything you can perform yourself, but the variety of options available can help to target specific skin complaints.

The composition of natural acids and enzymes found in a skin peel work to cut through the build-up of grime and grease, providing a deep exfoliation that rids the skins surface of dead cells. As a result, clean, fresh, baby soft skin is exposed, giving you a totally rejuvenated appearance and a brand-new outlook on life.

What are the benefits of a Skin Peel treatment?

There is a vast array of Skin Peel treatments available on the market, each with their own unique benefits. It’s important to discuss with your clinician the particular conditions you wish to address and your desired ultimate outcome.

Irrespective of the peel you chose, you can expect several, general aesthetic benefits:
Once the build-up of dead skin cells and dirt are removed from the skin you are left with a clear surface that will feel smoother to touch. A peel equally can help to smooth the appearance of fine lines that are minimised by stripping taking back the skin to its pure base layer.

In addition to the reduction of fine lines, skin peel treatments stimulate new cell growth and collagen production which will restore elasticity and moisture to help fight the signs of ageing.

By shedding the older layers of skin, you become clear of product build up, grease and grime. This will reveal a brighter, revitalised skin surface which bursts with a natural glow.

The active ingredients found in clinician applied skin peels provide a level of exfoliation and cleansing unachievable with off-the-shelf at home products. You skin will feel cleaner than ever before

Acne Fighting
By reducing open pores and obliterating the presence of bacteria, a skin peel can work wonders in the fight against acne. Once the skin has decongested, redness and swelling will reduce leaving a calm, natural complexion.

Pigmentation Reducing
The resurfacing benefits that come from deep exfoliation evens skin tone, reduce blemishes, and lighten the appearance of hyperpigmentation for a flawless finish.

What to expect during treatment?

Skin peels are as unique as your own skin, so it’s important that we establish the best possible option for you during an initial consultation with one of our specialist clinicians.

Once the correct peel has been selected for you, the treatment will always begin by preparing the face with a deep cleanser to remove any surface oils. The peel solution is then applied across the skin and left to absorb. You may feel some tingling as the active ingredients get to work on the skin, but this usually calms down after a few minutes.

Depending on which peel you have chosen, the active acid solution will then be layered to take action on your target skin complaint. The clinician will manage how deeply the solution needs to penetrate to achieve the desired result. Once they are satisfied with the progress, they will neutralise the active acids to halt activity at the right moment.

Any excess product is removed, and a protection serum applied before leaving the clinic. It’s totally normal to expect that your skin will look worse before it looks better as it goes through the peeling phase. Your clinician will advise you of how to take care of your skin in the days following your treatment.

Are there any side effects involved in having a Skin Peel?

It is usual to expect that after a skin peel you will experience some redness in the skin and peeling of the skin. It’s important to take this in consideration when planning the timing of your treatment, as the best results are likely to be seen after the treatment effects have calmed.

Since each peel is different and the penetration levels of active solutions vary, it’s important to discuss any specific side effects at your initial consultation, so you are fully aware of what to expect in the following days and weeks post peel.
